The Thai sacred amulet community was shaken by controversy after a transaction for a coveted “Phra Phuttho Klang” statue—reportedly valued at 950,000 baht—fell apart during a live stream. The piece was offered by “Nut Fan Pan Tae,” a former champion of the Fan Pan Tae television quiz program known for his expertise in Jatukham Rammathep and Mae Boonreuan Tongboontoem amulets.
The issue began on October 4, when online personality “Coke Zero” accompanied a senior buyer to pick up the statue at Pantip Ngamwongwan following an initial 50,000-baht deposit. The buyers began streaming the handover live so fellow devotees could observe the rare piece. Background accounts allege the item originally originated as an ordinary, inexpensive Rattanakosin-era bronze purchased for around 5,000 baht, before changing hands among dealers and eventually being listed as a rare Mae Boonreuan consecration worth nearly one million baht.
Unlike ancient relics from the Chiang Saen or Sukhothai eras, genuine Phra Phuttho Klang statues were consecrated between 1957 and 1959 in an edition limited to only 200–300 pieces, deriving their substantial market value from faith in Mae Boonreuan’s spiritual reputation rather than antique age.
Tensions mounted during the inspection when the dealer presented four separate authenticity certificates. The prospective buyer then produced a verified standard reference piece for a direct side-by-side comparison. The physical comparison revealed evident differences in height, lap width—measuring only 4.5 inches rather than the customary 6 inches—and the count of lotus petals adorning the base, prompting Coke Zero to declare the statue inauthentic.
Following the confrontation, Nut offered to return the deposit, though the buyer initially declined the refund and weighed formal fraud complaints. Nut subsequently visited the shrine of Mae Boonreuan to offer apologies for his oversight, announcing that he is compiling evidence and documentation to issue a comprehensive public explanation.
